Meet The Teachers & DJs
Adam & Leanne - White Rose Tango
Your hosts for the weekender, Adam and Leanne have been teaching tango nuevo classes and running events in York and the surrounding areas for over 10 years.
Their teaching focuses on embedding good technique and, most importantly, the connection between the leader and the follower, allowing great technique to be extended into the complex and intricate figures that tango nuevo is known for.
Colgadas are a particular speciality of theirs (although they can and do teach other things!) Adam and Leanne both lead and follow in their classes. They welcome live feedback and love insightful, in the moment questions.
Diane Kerry & Mark McCormick
Diane & Mark, started their dancing in other genres, and like many other dancers found they were fascinated by Tango, which became their passion. The joy they find in moving musically and connecting to people on a deeper level has opened up opportunities to teach both in the UK and Europe.
They seek not perfection, but finding and discovering magical moments in the dance community that encircles and accepts all harmonies, including alternative & nuevo. Their teaching style is both playful, but also about partnership and appreciation of the self, within the unity of the couple, in a smooth, gentle style, building on what you will already know to bring a new, grounded appreciation of the embrace.
Jon & Katie - Tango Hull
Jon and Katie have been teaching tango nuevo classes and running events in Hull for over 10 years.
Their teaching is filled with patience and humour and draws upon their extensive experience garnered from a broad range of teachers and styles.
Not just excellent teachers they have a keen ear for fantastic music and deliver delectable demos.
Chris & Alison - Urban Tango Nights
Chris and Alison found tango in 2014. Nowadays, they’re pillars of the tango nuevo community in Swansea, running their own high quality classes and events, as well as guest teaching all over the place!
They believe that enjoyment should be first and foremost when learning tango. They actively encourage experimentation in the development of personal style as well as understanding of the history of the dance.
Dave & Gillian - Skipton Tango
David and Gillian have been Skipton Tango’s teachers since 2017.
Although currently on holiday from weekly classes, they regularly DJ Tango events at the Engine Shed (Wetherby), Boston Spa and host the free open-air ‘Ilkley Bandstand Tango’ series whenever summer’s weather permits.
Their teaching and music fuses traditional and modern techniques with a love for varied Tango music from traditional through to alt., classical, Nuevo and Neo.
Ali Pickard
Ali is a long-time dancer, teacher and alt tango DJ.
She is very involved with the promotion of dual-role dancing in the Tango community.
This year, Ali will be taking on one of our 'basics' classes, aimed at getting those who are new to tango ready for the dancefloor!
Her dance style and teaching are all about play, risk, conversation, and dancing with the whole of your body.
John Paul - Love Tango Darlington
If you've been to our events before, you'll know that John Paul's s classes are not to be missed... And neither is the chance to grab him for a dance at the social!
He was first introduced to this mesmerising and amazing dance when he saw some TV programmes about it on back in 2005. Enchanted by the way the couples danced on an intuitive and connected level, without relying on ‘sequences’, or choreographed moves, he knew he had to learn how!
Many years down the line John Paul teaches classes in the North East and is in great demand, whenever he's out on the social dancefloor!
DJ Paul Anderson
Paul is resident DJ at the Huddersfield Tango Loft, and is building a solid reputation as a popular Neo / Nuevo / Alt tango DJ in the UK.
He has danced far and wide since he took his first tango steps in 1998. He’s seen what does and doesn’t work on the dancefloor and feeds all those years of experience into his own DJ sets.
DJ Lorenzo Salzano
Over years of dancing, teaching and running his own events, Lorenzo of Creative Tango Nottingham has discovered that powerful music and connected dancing lights something deep inside him.
Through explorations of the flavours of tango he developed his own style and found a spiritual home in the culture of European neo tango. He loves the music, the way it's played, the complete freedom of expression and the can-do attitude. Lorenzo strives to recreate the feeling that he gets from dancing through his own DJ set
DJ Jon Lee
Jon, AKA ‘The King of Covers’, brings over 10 years of experience of dancing, teaching and DJing at his own events with Tango Hull. His impeccable taste means that his DJ sets always go down a storm with the tango nuevo crowd.
When it comes to his alt tango music selection there’s usually a cracking cover version or two in there that has everyone rushing to the DJ table to find out what it is, so they can add it to their own music collection.
DJ Leanngo
One of the scene’s most popular DJs,
Leanne brings fresh, tailor-made sets to every event with each track carefully researched and selected from contemporary artists, tried and tested modern classics and her own personal favourites.
As a highly experienced dancer, Leanne’s choices are both innately danceable and enjoyable, opening up new avenues of interest for us to explore long after the last dance has ended.
DJ Adam Parnell
Grandfather of U.K. Nuevo, nay, GREAT grandfather of U.K. Nuevo (steady on😒Adam) will be playing the house style of Nuevo, Neo and Alternative favourites compiled, tried and tested over 15 years of clubs, classes and events.
Music teacher/analyst by day, tango dancer, teacher and Nuevo DJ by mid afternoon, Adam prefers punchy, rhythmic, well structured songs or smoother, softer numbers with balanced phrasing and contrasting textures. It’s the music many of us have come to know and love as the mainstay of music at White Rose Tango events.
